What I had: Red velvet mini-cupcake with buttercream frosting

How YOU doin?

First stop, after winding out way through the never-ended one-way streets of Oregon City, we almost made it to the farmer’s market before getting sucked into a tiny pastry shop on Main Street.

Wrightberry’s Cakes & Cupcakes specializes in wedding cakes to order, as well as jumbo and bite size filled cupcakes, offered daily.  Several absolutely amazing looking cakes were on display, as well as a beautiful assortment of large and small cupcakes.

We chitchatted with Jan Wright, who explained each of the selections to us, and answered some of Terry’s baking questions.

Oahu Food Crawl Part 4: It’s all worth it at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

This is part 4 of my 4-installment Oahu food crawl:

1 – An amazing breakfast at Leonard’s Hawaii
2 – Following in the Footsteps of Fieri
3 – Best dessert ever at The Dole Plantation (and an unscheduled fruit stand)
4 – It’s all worth is at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

So, by now we were nearing capacity and, honestly, the thought of more food (no matter how awesome it was) wasn’t really firing our rockets. However, there was one more North Shore classic that I really wanted to try. Dane agreed, and the girls were in an unresponsive coma-like state, so we pulled off the highway into a roped-off field and walked over to a grimy, noisy, graffiti-covered panel truck, saddled against a picnic shelter and a tiny outdoor “market.”

This was the famous Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck of which I had read so much about, and I was struck by the dichotomy of the less-than-inspiring visuals and the heavenly aromas that clung to the surrounding area like a garlic-butter fog.

So, with much groaning and contented sighs, we left Poke Stop and headed for our next destination, the Dole Plantation. I was pretty excited about this stop, as Dane has been talking about how awesome the signature treat of the plantation, the Dole Whip, was, for months.

95-1840 Meheula Prkwy
Mililani, Hawaii 96789

FAX : 808-626-3900

What we tried: A lot of stuff

What I liked best: Furikake Salmon Pokē, Kahlua Pork Wontons

Stop two was a place I’d been jonesing to try every since I watched Guy Fieri (a hero of mine) hit it on his Hawaii episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Chef Elmer Guzman operates a small but efficient kitchen that delivers the freshest, tastiest and most delectable Hawaiian Seafood dishes. Poke Stop offers a very nice selection of Poke, Sashimi/Sushi platters, hot dishes and Bentos to go.

Oahu Food Crawl Pt.1 – Leonard’s Hawaii

Recently, Vic and I were blessed to be invited by some (really cool) friends of ours, Dane & Michelle Shores, to spend a week with them in Hawaii, both on Oahu and Kauai.

While on Oahu, Dane (a fellow foodie) organized a food crawl around the island, hitting some of his favorite, and most famous, nosh spots.

It…was…epic.
